About Traceroute
Maps the hop-by-hop network path from our server to a target host, showing every router along the way and the latency at each hop. When a connection is slow or failing, traceroute shows where in the path the problem actually is. Not every hop will respond — some routers are configured not to reply to traceroute probes, which shows as a timeout rather than a failure and is normal, not necessarily a sign of a problem.
This only shows the path in one direction, from our server to the target — the reverse path taken by response traffic can differ (asymmetric routing is common on the internet), so a problem on the way back won't necessarily show up here.
